Worry About Your Home

I don't understand why everyone is so worried about Haiti's Earthquake damage, and the uproar it's caused in the media.  It is a good cause, and I hate that millions are in suffering and an uncounted number of people are dead because of it, but it startles me to realize, that America has put more effort, money, and time into the "relief" of a country on the other side of the world, one of which we have no judicial, financial, or moral connection to, than we have to our own issues right here in the country we live in.  Don't we owe more to the homeless and poverished, striving in our home country than we do in a country that we have no right meddling in, in the first place?  I'm just saying, it makes sense to me to take care of our own, then worry about the rest of the world when we are back to 100% as a nation, when ALL of us are able to.  I see countless donation centers for Haiti at gas stations, flea markets, shopping centers, the mall, grocery stores, etc.  The only donation centers for the homeless are either at a soup kitchen, or are held up by the homeless in questions at off-ramps and intersections by themeselves.  The homeless rate in America is 600,000 people at any given time, and this statistic has remained constant since the early 1990's.  We could accomplish a lot more as a nation if we are all ready and able to help the world, instead of fighting for who our neighbor is going to help this week, some stranger we'll never meet and has no connection to our personal lives, or me.  We can't help someone else if we can't help ourselves, guys.  We need to get America fixed before America can help anyone else.
